Position Summary:

The Design Engineer has the responsibility to design new products. The Design Engineer is responsible for applying fundamental engineering principles to design to ensure correctness and safety. This position will assist with manufacturing design by designing and developing fixtures and tools to streamline production processes. This position will be required to work in conjunction with other members of the engineering department. The position will support Marketing, Supply Chain, Sales, and the Executive team to achieve goals for new product development. The Design Engineer may be asked to support or do tasks outside of the standard role of Design Engineer. The position will require engagement and communication with outside vendors and/or within Christensen Arms departments regarding new product development, new material usage, material processing, equipment acquisition, training, process implementation, and plant layout.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create or critique new or existing designs for new product development or production tooling and manufacturing
  • Analyze design to identify failure modes in the design following DFMEA principles and work with teams to find a design solution
  • Work with Production and Engineering teams in establishing an efficient design to ensure production, marketing, and sales goals are met
  • Provide insights and solutions to improve and streamline processes throughout the plant
  • Work with production and quality teams to ensure the designs yield the part quality and production demand requirements for Christensen Arms
  • Provide training of engineering design practices as requested through the plant
  • Work within specified budget and time constraints

 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mfg. Engineering Mechanical or Design preferred)
  • Understanding of GD&T principles (ASME Y14.5 certification preferred)
  • Excellent reading comprehension skills to interpret written documentation
  • Ability to apply FMEA and analysis of engineering principles to design
  • Must use Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Experienced CAD modeling (Solidworks preferred)
  • Experience creating 2D drawings from 3D CAD models following engineering standards
  • Familiarity with PDM Systems (Solidworks PDM preferred)
  • Must be able to analyze data using statistical methods (Six Sigma training preferred)
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain technical issues
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Focus on continuous improvement both personally and for Christensen Arms
